The President's Office has said there are 922 political employees in the government.
This is higher than the limit set by the government during its transitional period.
Interim spokesman Mohamed Firzul said President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu wants to keep the number below 700.
“This figure has been decided to include administrative staff working in government ministries, the President’s Office and his residence, the Vice-President’s residence," he told reporters at the time.
The government faced criticism for refusing to reveal the number of political employees despite repeated requests under the Right to Information (RTI) law.
According to the information published on the President's Office website at 12:30 am on July 16, the total number of political appointees at the moment is 922. They are appointed under Article 115(f) of the constitution.
In October last year, Muizzu ordered the dismissal of more than 200 political employees. Some were also transferred from ministries to government companies.

"The total number of political posts is subject to change throughout each presidential term due to terminations, resignations, and new appointments," the President's Office said.
The President's Office has not yet revealed the salaries and allowances of the 922 people in political positions while the full list of the employees was not disclosed as well.
