Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel has said that the news reported by some media outlets affects relations with friendly countries.
Khaleel was speaking at the launch of the documentary Independent Maldives, produced by state broadcaster Public Service Media (PSM).
“Especially if it is something that influences or disrupts our sovereignty, we should choose not to report that story," he said.
Khaleel said such media reports have disrupted relations with important countries. But he did not provide an example of such an incident.
“If we report those stories, what we are doing is attacking our country with our hands,” Khaleel said.
His remarks came as the current government faces accusations of using the media to promote the India Out campaign while they were in the opposition.
