Gulhifalhu Citizens Association has urged land recipients of the Binveriya housing scheme not to sign the new agreement offered by the current administration.
At a press conference on Monday, the association's president Sham'an Rasheed urged land recipients not to sign the new agreement.
"We strongly request that no one go to sign the agreement. We hope the government will offer the previous agreement as soon as possible," he said.
The agreement offered by the former government stipulates that if the recipient has a land plot or housing not more than 600 square feet in the Male' area, they must give up the land or the housing to get the land plot in Gulhifalhu.
But the new agreement offered by the current government says any recipient with a land plot, housing, flat or social housing anywhere in the Maldives must give up that place to get the Gulhifalhu land plot.
The association's lawyer Mohamed Nishan Ibrahim said the government's decisions on the land issue have violated laws and regulations.
He added that the land recipients can seek civil and damage compensation if the decisions remain unchanged.
