The government has cancelled an announcement seeking investors to develop two resorts in the lagoon of Haa Alif Kelaa island.
In an announcement on Thursday, the Tourism Ministry said the decision was made to include Kelaa project under new concessions for investors.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu decided on March 29 to remove an area of 325.5 hectares from Kelaa's jurisdiction.
The Tourism Ministry has fixed the value of 169.3 hectares for the first resort at USD 2,032,110 while the value for the second resort is USD 1,996,740 for an area of 156.2 hectares.
The deadline for submission of bids was 1:00 pm June 5. But a new announcement is now expected to be made for the project.
Muizzu pledged to develop a tourism facility in Kelaa lagoon during the presidential election in 2023.
