International Yoga Day was celebrated in the Maldives today with a special guest from the government.
The Yoga Day celebrations organised by the Indian High Commission were held at the Taj Exotica Resort and Spa.
State Minister of Sports Ibrahim Amir was the special guest of honour on behalf of the government.
More than 500 people attended the event. The theme for this year is "Yoga for One Earth, One Health." This is the 11th International Yoga Day.
Meanwhile, several senior government officials have recently raised their voices against yoga, which they say is an act of shirk (associating partners with God).
In 2022, the Yoga Day event held at the National Stadium in Male' was obstructed and several scholars were charged with inciting unrest.
But the charges of the figures connected to the current administration were withdrawn last week.
