The Malé City Council has announced a ban on all vehicle movement in Greater Malé City on the evening of Eid, which falls on Friday.
According to the council, the restriction will be in place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, covering all types of vehicles, including electric and battery-operated ones. The measure is part of a policy introduced on June 13 last year, aimed at ensuring a safe and festive atmosphere during Eid celebrations.
To accommodate emergency situations, special vehicle permits will be issued by the General Services Department of the City Council on Friday between 8:30 AM–10:30 AM and 2:00 PM–3:45 PM.
The city-wide traffic ban has been well received by the public, with many residents taking to the streets on Eid evenings to celebrate and spend time with family and friends without the disturbance of vehicles.
