Dr. Vitaliy Lyubimov, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), has filed a case with the Employment Tribunal over his dismissal without notice.

Vitaliy filed the complaint alleging that on March 3, he was illegally dismissed without giving him three months' notice or salary for that period. Vitaliy's three-month salary is USD 42,000 (MVR 647,640).

MIFCO argued that the tribunal cannot hear the case. But the tribunal decided to proceed and has ordered MIFCO to respond to the complaint.

After Vitaliy's dismissal, several MIFCO managers, who were fired during his tenure, were reinstated. Former Vice Chief of Defense Force, Brigadier General (retd) Farhath Shaheer was appointed as the new CEO.

Vitaliy was appointed to the post in December 2024. So he spent only three months in office. The government did not give a reason for his dismissal.
