The Maldives Broadcasting Commission has sacked its Secretary General Mariyam Zeeniya after employees filed a petition in parliament accusing commissioners of violating laws and regulations.
On May 20, Zeeniya was suspended for 96 hours. Adhadhu understands that Zeeniya had responded to accusations against her following the suspension as ordered by the commission.
Adhadhu can confirm that the notice of dismissal was sent to Zeeniya after 3:00 pm today.
Last week, Broadcom employees walked out of work to protest against unfair treatment. They were also upset about Zeeniya's suspension.
The employees said her suspension was unfair, similar to how another employee was reprimanded previously.
The petition asked the parliament's Independent Institutions Committee to ensure that the commissioners comply with the laws and regulations.
The current members of Broadcom are Safa Shafeeq (President), Mohamed Abdulla, Aminath Ameena, Aminath Sarahath Izzath, Aminath Nuzuha, Shifla Ibrahim and Moosa Rilwan.
