The Election Commission (EC) members met with US Ambassador Hugo Yon on Wednesday.
EC President Mohamed Zahir, Vice President Abdul Rahman Salah and member Abdul Haseeb Ismail attended the meeting at the EC office.
Discussions were held on ways to enhance cooperation on elections, enhance the capacity of the commission and promote democratic values.
They agreed to strengthen the existing relations between the EC and the United States and hold transparent, participatory and credible elections.
The local council elections will be held next year. The US has been an observer in all elections since the country began holding democratic elections.
