The government has launched a special program to enhance the performance of senior government executives, including political appointees.
The President’s Office commenced the Executive Development Program 2025-2027 on Wednesday, led by the Political Appointees Performance Management Unit.
"The EDP is a capacity-building initiative designed to enhance the performance of senior government executives, including political appointees in Government ministries," the President's Office stated.
According to the President's Office, it focuses on key areas such as enhancing managerial skills, organisational effectiveness, best practices and inter-agency coordination.
The first session was delivered on Wednesday by public speaker Afeef Hussain on the topic “Leading and Transforming a Nation Through a Service Excellence Culture.”
The government has repeatedly refused to disclose the number of political employees appointed by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
But Muizzu said the total number of government employees is "about" 49,000, of which political appointees make up three percent.
Based on that percentage, the number of political appointees could be around 1,470 people. However, it is unclear whether this is the exact figure.
