President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed that his Under Secretary for Digital Strategy, Ahmed Daudh, was suspended over his leaked photos on social media.
At a press conference at the President's Office on May 3, Muizzu said he ordered Daudh to resign from the Youth Advisory Board and suspended him from the President’s Office because he could not ignore the leaked photos.
"It was just difficult for me to ignore it without action. Because of the type of photo. So I ordered him to resign as President of the Youth Advisory Board. Then, now I have suspended him from the President's Office post, without pay," Muizzu stated.
He added that action was taken after Daudh admitted that the leaked photos were of him taken when he was studying.
“In this case, this Daudh case, Daudh himself told me that they were photos of him when he was a student, that he deeply regrets and is now ashamed of,” Muizzu said.
Action against Daudh was taken after he was accused of attending a "drug party" on April 18, after which Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, 21, had a fall from an apartment building in Male'.
A photograph of Daudh with 12 alcohol bottles went viral, while another photo of Daudh with a nude woman was leaked on the same day.
But Muizzu said police had not alerted him about any allegations against Daudh in connection with the "drugs party" and Yumnu's fall.
The government has faced criticism because Daudh had not been dismissed from the President's Office.
