More resignations from Presidential Youth Advisory Board

Three more members have resigned from the Presidential Youth Advisory Board.

Aminath Rabab, Nimal Hameed and Fathimath Raea Shareef had submitted their resignations.

Earlier on Friday, TV presenter Huwaina Mohamed Nihad (Huway) submitted her resignation from the board.

The resignations come amid nightly protests by young people demanding accountability and a transparent investigation into the unexplained ninth-floor fall of a young woman.

Police believe Hawwa Yumnu, 21, fell from a window in the stairwell of Henveiru Fentenoy house on April 18. Raudh Ahmed, 21, who was with her at the time of the incident, left the scene and did not report to authorities.

The police have faced immense criticism over their response following Yumnu's fall. There have been accusations of a cover-up because the case involves relatives of wealthy and politically influential figures.

The Youth Advisory Board has 15 members. They are two members appointed by the President, two national-level athletes, two from arts and crafts, two from youth empowerment, four from four areas designated by the Ministry of Youth and three from the university student union presidents.

President's Office Under Secretary for Digital Strategy Daudh Ahmed, who was suspended over alleged connections to the case, was the President of the board. He submitted his resignation on Thursday.

The board's objective is to confer with the President on the implementation of the administration's manifesto and important policies, identify obstacles and challenges to youth development in various fields, and work towards solutions at the national and regional levels.
