President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has distributed money to the female staff at the President's Office on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Adhadhu understands that MVR 500 was given to each female employee. This was given as a Bank of Maldives (BML) gift card instead of handing over cash.
Along with the BML gift cards, Muizzu also gave a letter to each female employee to convey greetings of the occasion.
Some President's Office employees who shared photos of the gift cards questioned the source of the money and whether it was a state expenditure.
According to official figures from the President's Office, the office has 349 employees as of this month.
The exact number of female employees is unknown, but it can be assumed that about 50 percent of the employees, or 175, are women.
This means that Muizzu spent a total of MVR 87,500 to give BML gift cards to all female employees.
Muizzu has previously distributed money to ruling party lawmakers at the rate of MVR 50,000 for each MP.
Meanwhile, Attorney General (AG) Ahmed Usham had also recently distributed money to AG office employees through BML gift cards worth MVR 1000.
