President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced discounts on electricity and water bills during Ramadan.
Speaking in Kudahuvadhoo island on Sunday night, Muizzu expressed regret over the alleged false news about the government's plans for Ramadan.
He claimed that multiple lies had been circulated about the tuna cans to be distributed to every household for Ramadan.
The opposition is now saying that the government intends to increase charges on electricity bills to recover the cost of tuna cans, he said.
"I have already spoken about this, on December 8, 2024, when I met the people of Alif Alif Mathiveri. That we will give discounts on electricity and water bills during Ramadan as we did in the previous Ramadan. We will do that," he said.
Muizzu is currently on a tour of Dhaalu atoll. He is accompanied by ministers and senior government officials and is set to return to Male' on Tuesday.
