Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has gone to the President's Office to meet President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu amid worsening relations between the two leaders.

The exact reason for the meeting is unclear. However, this is the first official meeting between Muizzu and Abdul Raheem in many days.

There were rumours that the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) had discussed Abdul Raheem's removal as Speaker of the People's Majlis.

His son Ibrahim Faisal was sacked as Tourism Minister on January 28.

In an interview with a local news outlet, Abdul Raheem said Faisal would not have been sacked if his relationship with Muizzu had not deteriorated.

He has not made any further comments on the matter. But Muizzu and Abdul Raheem were seen together at the opening sitting of the People's Majlis.

Abdul Raheem has also been isolated from all activities of the ruling party while many of his close associates have been sacked by the government.

However, after several days, the Fonadhoo MP visited the party's campaign hall on Sunday. But he refused to speak with the media outside the premises.
