President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed hopes to strengthen cooperation between the Maldives and Singapore.
Today marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"The past 50 years have seen our trade ties, people-to-people connections and official engagements rise manifold, bringing our countries closer," Muizzu said in a post on X.
"It is my sincere hope that we may strengthen our cooperation in the future to sustain this momentum."
He also sent letters to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
In his letters, Muizzu noted that the concurrent increase in high-level exchanges over the years has played an instrumental role in advancing diplomatic ties.
The Maldives and Singapore established formal diplomatic relations on February 20, 1975.
