Maafannu South MP Abdulla Rifau from the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has proposed amendments for the People's Majlis to go into recess for the fasting month of Ramadan.
He proposed to separately approve the duration of the three sessions of the parliament every year.
According to the amendment, the first session will begin and end in January. Under the current rules, the first session begins in February and ends in May while the second session runs from June 1 to August 15 and the third session runs from October 1 to November 30.
Rifau did not give a reason for the proposed changes.
