President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Parliament Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim.
Multiple sources confirmed to Adhadhu that they met on Sunday in Muleeaage, the President's official residence. The meeting was held before Hussain departed for the UAE.
The meeting comes amid worsening relations between Muizzu and Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
In a recent interview with a local news outlet, Abdul Raheem said his relationship with Muizzu was not good. He made the remark after his son Ibrahim Faisal was dismissed as Tourism Minister.
Abdul Raheem has also been isolated from all activities of the ruling party while many of his close associates have been sacked by the government.
There are rumours that the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) is planning to remove the Fonadhoo MP as Speaker of the People's Majlis.
However, the PNC has not officially commented on the matter and there is no information that signatures are being sought to submit the petition.
Adhadhu understands that Nazim is one of Muizzu's preferences to replace Abdul Raheem while some other MPs have also informed Muizzu of their interest in the position.
