Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla did not participate in the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) campaign activities in Laamu Gan island to garner support for the party's candidate for the vacant seat of the Women's Development Committee (WDC), Adhadhu has learnt.

The photos and videos posted by the PNC Gan constituency social media page do not show the Fonadhoo MP. A source close to Abdul Raheem confirmed that he did not participate in the campaign activities.

“[Abdul Raheem] is in Male'. He did not participate in that event,” a PNC source close to Abdul Raheem told Adhadhu.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed and Regional Airports Company Limited (RACL) Managing Director Ahmed Mubeen led the campaign activities in Laamu atoll over the weekend.

This is the first time since the formation of the PNC government that Abdul Raheem has not taken part in a campaign event in Laamu atoll. He played a key role in gathering support for PNC during the last presidential election and parliamentary elections.

Abdul Raheem, who comes from Laamu Fonadhoo island, is popular among the people of the atoll. However, recently, his relationship with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has deteriorated.

As a result, many of Abdul Raheem's close associates have been sacked by the government. They include Abdul Raheem's son former Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal who was abruptly sacked in the last week of January.
