The financial statements of senior government officials have not been made public more than a year and two months after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office.
Two days after Muizzu assumed office, President's Office Under Secretary Mohamed Firzul told reporters that the government would publicize the financial statements of all senior officials.
However, 445 days have passed since then and the financial statements have not been published on the President's Office website.
So far, efforts by Adhadhu to find a date to disclose the financial statements have not been successful. The government could not say whether it was working to disclose the financial statements.
During the former administration, the financial statements of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Vice President Faisal Naseem, cabinet ministers and top officials of the President's Office were published on January 10, 2019. This was 55 days after Solih assumed office in November 2018.
Months later, the financial statements of state ministers and deputy ministers were also published on the President's Office website. Following that, the financial statements were updated annually.
Officials in the current administration, from the top ranks to the lowest ranks, face many allegations of corruption and illicit enrichment.
