The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has decided to protest near the People's Majlis to coincide with the opening of parliament on Thursday.
In a post on X, the main opposition party said protesters will gather outside the People's Majlis to listen to the presidential address. But the post did not specify a time.
MDP had previously gathered near the parliament to protest against the rushed constitutional amendments and the delays in handing over land plots and flats.
Police had obstructed all previous gatherings near parliament.
On Friday night, MDP marched across Male' to demand President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's resignation because of failed policies.
Hundreds of people marched across the capital city under police protection while also calling for Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan's resignation.
It was the biggest anti-government demonstration since Muizzu assumed office in November 2023.
The new session of parliament is scheduled to begin on Thursday amid worsening relations between Muizzu and Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
Some rumours suggest that plans were underway to remove Abdul Raheem from the Speaker position. His son Ibrahim Faisal was sacked as Tourism Minister last week.
The government has not yet commented on the reason for his sudden dismissal.
