The Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) has launched an investigation into a video song broadcast by Raajje TV in January.
Broadcom said, in a notice sent to Raajje TV yesterday, that it had started investigating the song "Dhivehin Hama Fundijje Ey, Mi Varun Hama Fundijje Ey (Maldivians have been destroyed, this has destroyed us)" aired on Raajje TV on January 26.
The case was filed with Broadcom on Sunday. However, the Broadcom notice did not specify the complainant's details.
Broadcom asked Raajje TV to keep the content of the song safe and unchanged until the commission concludes its investigation.
The lyrics for the song were written by Amir Saleem whose brother, former MP Ahmed Saleem, is the owner of the opposition-aligned TV station.
The song was critical of the government and highlighted unfulfilled pledges. Some issues highlighted in the song include the delay in handing over land plots and flats, flooding in Male' and President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's frequent overseas trips while the people suffer the brunt of a worsening economy.
