The Tourism Ministry and Environment Ministry have been merged without appointing a new Minister for Tourism.
Thoriq Ibrahim, who was in charge of the Environment Ministry, was today appointed as the Minister of Tourism and Environment.
The appointment ceremony took place this afternoon at the President's Office where Thoriq took his oath of office before Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu later presented him with his ministerial appointment letter.
The Tourism Minister's post became vacant after the dismissal of Ibrahim Faisal on January 28. The government has not disclosed the reason for his dismissal.
The Tourism Ministry was temporarily handed over to Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed.
Faisal's dismissal came amid the deteriorating relationship between his father parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and Muizzu.
In an interview with a local news outlet, Abdul Raheem said Faisal would not have been sacked if his relationship with Muizzu had not deteriorated.
