Several people from Haa Dhaal Vaikaradhoo island and the constituency's MP Hussain Ziyad (Fittey) have been registered as members of the ruling party by submitting forged applications.
Fittey is a member of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). He told Adhadhu that he was registered as a member of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) on December 23.
"I checked because a lot of people from my island had been registered as PNC members without their knowledge. When I checked, I was also registered as a PNC member," he said.
Fittey said he did not know who registered him as a member of PNC and that he would submit a complaint to the Elections Commission (EC).
More complaints are pouring in over the issue of party membership fraud allegedly committed by the PNC.
Dozens of people have been complaining on social media about how they have been registered to PNC without their knowledge through forged signatures.
Some of these application forms have altered photographs and fake fingerprints. However, PNC MPs have signed these forms as witnesses.
Former MP Saud Hussain posted an application form on social media X which shows Villimale' MP Mohamed Ismail signed as a witness.
Another man named Naail said an altered photo was used on the application form filled with his personal information without his knowledge.
The main opposition MDP formally lodged a complaint at the EC over party membership fraud last week.
They asked the EC to stop processing the forms submitted by the PNC and re-examine all the forms. However, the EC has not taken a decision.
PNC has not officially commented on the allegations of party membership fraud.
The PNC worked to reach 100,000 members before the end of last year. Employees of various government ministries formed teams to achieve the goal.
But no official documents show that the party had reached the goal by the end of the year.
