The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has called on the government to explain the reasons for delaying the ban of Israeli passports.
In a post on X, the former Economic Minister said the Maldivian people deserve to know the reasons for the government's inability to deliver on the promise.
The bill to ban entry into the Maldives with Israeli passports was proposed to the Parliament in June by MP Meekail Naseem.
But the ruling party which controls Parliament supermajority has stalled work on the bill and has recently decided to finish the committee stage by February.
However, ruling party MPs have since talked against imposing a blanket ban and suggested banning entry of Israeli government and military officials.
