Adhadhu has learnt that the Male' city council hired eight consultants at high salaries after Adam Azim became the new mayor.
Speaking at the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s decentralization conference in Haa Dhaal Kulhudhuffushi on October 13, Azim said he had hired 15 consultants since become mayor.
Adhadhu requested for details of the consultants under the Right to Information (RTI) Act. According to the information provided by the city council, MVR 261,000 was being spent every month on the salaries of eight consultants.
The council did not provide details about their contract durations.

Adhadhu has now submitted the RTI response to the review committee since the figure does not match the number of consultants announced by Azim.
Adhadhu earlier reported about the salaries and allowances of former city council consultants when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was the mayor of Male'.
They include employees, consultants and companies which received monhtly payments ranging between MVR 18,000 and MVR 45,000.
Most of the former consultants and employees now hold senior government positions.
They include Heritage Minister Adam Naseer Ibrahim, Ambassador to UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed and President's Office Photographer Eliyz Ali Mohamed.
