The government is planning to hold an extravagant ceremony next week to formally begin work on the national masterplan for the next 20 years.
Adhadhu understands that the ceremony costs around MVR 2 million. This comes amid a severe financial crisis with plans to cut staff and salaries.
Housing Ministry said the ceremony to officially begin work on the masterplan will be held on November 6 at the Youth Centre. The ministry did not provide further information. However, Adhadhu understands that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and other senior government officials will attend the ceremony.
On September 16, the Cabinet discussed the drafting of the 20-year masterplan. The Cabinet decided to launch the practical work on the masterplan in November and complete it within 12 months.
The Housing Ministry has been appointed as the main agency of the project. President Muizzu will be updated on the project every two weeks while the Cabinet will be briefed every two months.
The Cabinet has decided to hold a seminar to inform the people about the government's vision before the masterplan is prepared. However, the government has not yet announced a date for the seminar.
The main principles of the plan will be included in the Constitution and a special law will be enacted.
