Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla and several MPs departed for Geneva last night for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) assembly.
The 149th IPU Assembly will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from October 13 to 17. Abdul Raheem is accompanied by Villimale' MP Mohamed Ismail, Fuvahmulah Medhu MP Ali Fazad, Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid and Kanditheemu MP Ameen Faisal.

This year’s IPU Assembly theme is "harnessing science, technology and innovation (STI) for a more peaceful and sustainable future."
This is Abdul Raheem’s second trip abroad as Parliament Speaker.
In August, he attended a seminar in China organized by the IPU to discuss accelerating implementation through the legislature to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
Villimale' MP Mohamed Ismail and Hulhudhoo MP Mohamed Shahid accompanied him on the China visit.
Meanwhile, this year's third session of the Parliament is scheduled to begin tomorrow.
