Social media users have humiliated senior government officials by reposting their criticism of India during the campaign to come to power.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu won the 2023 presidential election by questioning the former government's ties with the neighbouring country.
During the 'India Out' campaign, leading members of the People's National Congress (PNC) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), accused India of planning to influence Maldives' sovereignty.
They also alleged the former government helped India establish control in Addu city and Haa Dhaal Hanimaadhoo island.
Following his visit to China earlier this year, Muizzu accused India of bullying and said he would eliminate the dependence on India.
But less than a year since assuming office, Muizzu has changed his tone and is now building ties with India.
The opposition says the government ran a campaign of deception to win elections and has demanded a public apology for lying to the people.
As Muizzu continues his state visit to India, social media users have been flooding various platforms with posts made by senior government officials while they were in the opposition.
