President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The President's Office said President Muizzu and Samantha reaffirmed their commitment to working together in areas of mutual interest and ensured continued collaboration beneficial to both nations.
"The Administrator of USAID commended the Maldives' ambitious plans and affirmed USAID's readiness to collaborate on various initiatives," the President's Office stated.
The President's Office added that she also discussed potential support for enabling PayPal services in the Maldives and facilitating the country's membership in the Open Government Partnership (OGP).
USAID is an independent agency within the US government framework that provides financial assistance to various economic activities and development projects in Maldives.
The current government seeks to maintain closer ties with the United States and this has led to criticism from some members of the public.
