The Tourism Ministry has amended the list of islands and lagoons allocated for resort development and included three lagoons in Kaafu atoll.

Changes have been brought to the announcement gazetted by the ministry on May 30 by removing the names of three islands on the list. At the time, the announcement was gazetted with the acquisition cost for the islands and lagoons.

Islands omitted from the list

  • Lhaviyani Dhiffushi and Maidhoo (20.99+15.17 hectares) - USD 18.58 million
  • Thaa Kanimeedhoo (10 hectares) - USD 2.75 million
  • Gaaf Dhaal Kalhuhuttaa (7.61 hectares) - USD 951,250

However, the acquisition cost was not included when one island and six lagoons were noted on the list yesterday.

The inclusions to the list are three lagoons in Kaafu atoll, a lagoon each from Baa atoll, Alif Dhaal atoll and Vaavu atoll and Gaaf Dhaal Raaverinkolhihuttaa island.

Although the acquisition cost is not included in the announcement, the ministry said the cost will be calculated according to the table issued on May 30.

Acquisition cost is a fee charged for acquiring leasehold rights to an island, land or lagoon allocated for tourism purposes. Any agreement can only be signed when this money is paid to the state.
