The Maldives will see a new chapter of democracy with the policies of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has said.

In a statement on the International Day of Democracy, PNC said the new chapter of democracy will begin because of the reforms being brought to the state under "this leadership" and the economic and social policies.

"More than 16 years have passed since the introduction of the multi-party political system in Maldives, and although it has been identified that there are important major constitutional and administrative changes needed, such reforms have not been implemented," the statement said.

PNC claimed that significant changes have been made to the laws and system in the first nine months of this administration and further reforms were being carried out.

The ruling party highlighted efforts to limit the number of MPs and amend the law to hold major elections on the same date.

President Muizzu has said that a total of 200 bills will be introduced in Parliament within the next five years. The government has a supermajority with more than 75 MPs.
