Thulusdhoo, Maldives (August 28) - Mohamed Sobah (Chey), president of the Maldives Surfing Association (MSA), announced that they are planning to host a major international surfing competition in 2026.
With support from the Maldivian government, the Maldives Surfing Association (MSA) successfully hosted the ASF Asian Surfing Championship for two consecutive years. K. Thulusdhoo held the competition twice, marking a significant achievement for the Thulusdhoo community.
After wrapping up the historic competition arrangements, Sobah mentioned in an exclusive interview with "Adhadhu Sports" that there is a high likelihood they will not host another international event soon. He also indicated that they have more ambitious plans for the future.
"Given the current financial situation in the country, we would like to take a break from hosting international competitions. However, we are exploring opportunities to bring a more prestigious event to the Maldives, such as a Junior World Championship tour competition," Sobah stated ambitiously.
During the recent ASF Asian Surfing Championship, the Maldives National Surfing Team achieved historic milestones.
Kayan Zaki, the promising young surfer, made it to the semifinals, while three surfers reached the quarterfinals for the first time. The Maldives senior team secured fourth place in Asia, and the junior team ranked second in the continent.
