The President's Office has refused to disclose information about an injury President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu sustained while playing football and the surgery he underwent three years ago.

President's Office Communications Minister Ibrahim Khaleel told Adhadhu that the only information available regarding Muizzu's injury was what he publicly disclosed at a ruling party gathering on Monday night.

"I think it's personal information. The President explained what happened. That is the information I know," Khaleel said.

Speaking at a rally held by the People's National Congress (PNC), Muizzu said he was travelling to Singapore due to an injury sustained while playing football in the presidential retreat Aarah island and a surgery he underwent about two years ago.

"I went to the hospital a few days ago. I'm not into sports much but I try to play football three days a week at the pitch in Aarah. I got injured during the last game," Muizzu said.

"I've been to doctors in Male' for this injury and I'm going to Singapore tonight for a second opinion and a regular checkup for a surgery I had two or three years ago," he added.

The President has not disclosed the details of the surgery he underwent in Singapore while he was serving as the Mayor of Male' city. The President said he would return to the country after two days in Singapore.

President Muizzu has made several unofficial visits to Singapore since assuming office. The details of the visits in the past had not been revealed.
