Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom approved the Constitution after the opposition gathered near the presidential palace and protested due to delays in adopting the Constitution.
The special assembly to draft the Constitution was chaired by Maamigili MP and Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim. Abdul Raheem thanked Qasim and other MPs of the special assembly for their contribution.
