The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) investigation has found that a Trans Maldivian Airways seaplane which faced problems after landing near Baa atoll Westin Miriandhoo resort two months ago had corrosion.
The TMA plane, which was carrying tourists, encountered the problem while trying to reverse after landing near Miriandhoo.
According to the preliminary report prepared by CAA, the seaplane's float sustained damages during the incident. The report's findings include:
- Visible damage to the float assembly
- Rear spreader bar attaching bolt missing
- Rear float aft spreader bar and float attachment fitting damaged
- Damage to the right pontoon
- Fly wire on the right side was bent and fly wire on the left side was cut off
CAA noticed these issues during an inspection conducted after the accident. The inspection focused on whether the aircraft had any damage caused by corrosion.
Photos released with the report showed that the plane had heavy corrosion on the bolts to attach the pontoon.
No tourists or crew members were injured in the incident.
