The standing orders of the 20th People's Majlis came into force yesterday after the procedural rules were passed as approved by the General Affairs Committee.
At yesterday's vote, the parliamentary regulations were passed unanimously by the 64 MPs in attendance, above the 62 votes needed for passage.
The regulations were passed with an amendment proposed by Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas to offer five minutes instead of three minutes for MPs to speak during debates on motions without notice.
The Parliament that was sworn in on May 28 continued following the standing orders of the 19th Parliament until new rules could be drafted. The rules were due to be completed in a month but the drafting period was later extended due to delays.
