President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has praised the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) advisory opinion for Israel to leave the occupied Palestinian territories.
Israel's occupation is illegal and Israeli settlers must leave the occupied territories including East Jerusalem, the ICJ ruled.
"By recognising the continued illegal presence of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territories as a violation of international humanitarian law, the Court attests the aspirations of the Palestinian people embedded in their rightful pursuit of statehood and self determination," President Muizzu said.
"I call on Israel to bring an immediate end to its unlawful settlement policies, and make reparations to the damage incurred as a result of its exploitative and discriminative actions," he said.
He reiterated the Maldives' longstanding call for a sovereign and independent state of Palestine in line with pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
More than 38,700 people have been killed in Israel's genocide in Palestine, most of whom were civilians or non-combatant women and children.
