A foreigner has damaged a vehicle and obstructed a joint operation conducted by the Maldives Immigration and Police.
Controller General of Immigration Mohamed Shamaan said in a post on social media X that the foreigner is now in custody.
"Strict action will be taken against the suspect under the Immigration Act and he will be deported as soon as possible. The operation to catch undocumented workers will continue without hesitation and fear," he said.
Immigration and police are conducting a major operation across the country to track down and deport undocumented workers.
Immigration said that about 100 expatriates were taken into custody last week alone.
