President of the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) Abdulla Ghiyas has been appointed Chairman of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) confirmed his appointment in a post on X.
Ghiyas, who was appointed President of MATATO in 2022, has held the position previously as well. He has also served as the Vice President of MATATO.
Ghiyas was appointed to MMPRC less than a week after the company sacked Mohamed Bassam Adam as its Deputy Managing Director and Ibrahim Asim, the company's longest-serving employee.
MMPRC nor PCB have revealed the reason for their dismissal. However, Bassam said he left the company to cut costs under the policy of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The first Managing Director appointed to MMPRC under this government was Fathimath Thaufeeq. However, she was later dismissed and replaced by Ibrahim Shiury.
