Aasandha services have abruptly been stopped in India's Manipal Hospital due to high prices.

Aasandha was stopped for new patients in Manipal Hospital starting July 1 as part of the government's cost-cutting measures.

Aasandha Managing Director Aminath Zeeniya told Adhadhu that Aasandha will now be available only for follow-up patients in Manipal Hospital.

"Due to the high cost of services there, we have stopped taking cases to review the prices. After reviewing the prices, we will proceed with the agreed prices. But follow-up cases will still get Aasandha same as before," she said.

Zeeniya said efforts are being made to review the prices of Manipal Hospital and discussions will be held with the hospital in the coming days.

However, she did not say the exact date when Aasandha can be resumed in the hospital with new agreed prices.

Aasandha is available in several Indian hospitals including six hospitals in Bangalore, one in Mysore and one in Cochin.

Many people from Maldives travel to India for health services under the Aasandha scheme and some people have expressed concern after Aasandha has been stopped in Manipal Hospital.
