Police today stopped and towed a cargo vehicle that was transporting people in an inhumane manner.
A photo shared by police with the media showed that the vehicle was a retrofitted pickup with the open back space covered. A large number of people could be seen crammed into the enclosed space.
However, police towed the vehicle because it was not registered to drive in the Male' region. The annual fee was also unpaid, police said.
"Action was taken and the vehicle was towed over an expired annual fee and the driving of a vehicle registered in the B zone in the A zone," police said in the message sent to the media.
The vehicle was stopped and checked while illegally transporting people to the airport, police said.
A video showing the inhumane transport of workers also circulated on social media recently and police said at the time the case was under investigation. It is unclear whether the vehicle stopped today was the same as the one in the previous incident.
