Fathimath Thaufeeq (Kudi) has been dismissed as the Managing Director of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
A government official confirmed her dismissal to Adhadhu. This comes after MMPRC Chairperson Aisha Nurain Janah resigned from her post yesterday.
Since then, MMPRC board member Rafil Mohamed, who represents the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), has also resigned.
MMPRC has been mired in controversy for the past five months. There was criticism after Kudi tweeted against India, one of the largest source markets for Maldives tourism, and due to inefficient measures following complaints of sexual harassment in the company.
Meanwhile, the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has expressed concern that Maldives is not being promoted to meet the increasing tourism supply.
According to Nurain's resignation letter, her decision was prompted due to mismanagement and obstacles in carrying out the board's responsibilities with professionalism and integrity in accordance with corporate governance principles.
