The government has launched efforts to formulate a Strategic Action Plan (SAP) for the first five years of a 20-year masterplan under a law.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced plans to create a 20-year master plan during a ceremony in January. He said the master plan would be comprehensive and cover all relevant sectors.
Since then, the government has not mentioned any developments related to the master plan. When questioned about the matter, President's Office Chief Spokesperson Heena Waleed told Adhadhu that efforts were now underway to formulate a Strategic Action Plan for the next five years.
"Consultations and information gathering with relevant offices/agencies are currently underway. This strategic action plan will be the road map that will cover the first five years of the 20-year National Development Plan," she said.
Speaking on the 20-year master plan during the ceremony in January, President Muizzu shared the major projects planned by his government.
One of them is the Special Economic Zone, for which an MOU has now been signed. Muizzu said the Maldives Industrial Free Zone Company, which is currently being created by the government, would set up a re-export SEZ in the Thilafushi area after giving away land for housing and other purposes.
