The government signed an MoU with a Chinese company on Wednesday to build 1,000 housing units in Baa Eydhafushi.
The housing project was awarded to China’s Sinohydro Corporation Ltd. The government did not disclose further details about the agreement or the project.
Carrying out a large housing project in Eydhafushi was a campaign pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. On a visit to the island during the presidential election campaign, the President said Eydhafushi would become the island where the most number of housing units would be built.
“God willing, we will carry out for you a large housing units project to build the housing units and flats that the people of this island want. This island will become the place where the most housing units will be built with importance placed under the whole national housing policy,” the President said.
