Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has reported that 167.7 mm of rainfall was recorded in Addu City Gan in the last 24 hours.

Meteorologist Mohamed Shahudh told Adhadhu that the heaviest rainfall for Addu city this year was recorded within the last 24 hours.

But he noted that the southwest monsoon or the rainy season has not yet started and added that this is the transition period for the two monsoons.

"There are some circulations in this region, especially in the south and west. The rain clouds are formed due to these two circulations," Shahudh said.

Noting that more rain is expected in Addu city and the southern atolls for the next 24 hours, Shahudh said heavy rains are also expected in the central regions and slight showers in the northern regions.

The heaviest rainfall in Addu city in recent history was recorded in 2015 with 228 mm of rainfall.

April is the hottest month of the year in Maldives with occasional rains. However, the feel-like temperature in April is usually above 40 degrees.
