The Maldives has called for an immediate arms embargo to be imposed on Israel, the occupier of Palestinian land.
Chargé d'affaires Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, the Maldives ambassador to the United Nations, spoke on behalf of the country during a debate at the UN General Assembly on the veto of a UN Security Council resolution on February 20 that called for an immediate end to Israel's war in Palestine.
Speaking for the Maldives, Naseer said the use of the veto in the UN Security Council on 20 February "gave Israel a license to continue with impunity and kill more than a hundred Palestinian civilians and injure hundreds more during the incident of 29 February," referring to an attack near vessels carrying aid.
Noting the martydom of more than a hundred Palestinians on that day alone, Naseer said the whole world should be ashamed that Israel continues to kill civilians after depriving them of food, water and other necessities.
Characterizing Israel's actions in Palestine as an ongoing genocide, he called on the UN Security Council and the international community to take immediate action and to hold Israel accountable for war crimes against the Palestinian people.
