The students of Raa Dhuvaafaru were asked to come out and greet President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on his arrival on the island on Sunday.

Adhadhu understands that parents were officially informed to bring out their students in official uniform to welcome the President.

In a memo sent to social media groups, parents of Raa Atoll Education Center were informed to accompany students to the harbor area at 1:00 pm.

But a government circular issued on December 3, 2018, ordered relevant authorities not to bring out students to greet government officials.

“Since students standing for long periods and being exposed to the sun causes adverse effects on their health and causes various inconveniences such as wasting time, I inform relevant parties not to do this," reads the circular signed by former Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali.

The government of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also faced criticism after school students were brought out to greet him during visits to the islands.

The Education Ministry, at the time, said they were not aware that schools were informing parents to bring students to greet the President.
