The government will make full use of innovations and modern technology to develop the Maldives over the next five years, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said yesterday.
In his address at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, President Muizzu said the government is aiming to bring revolutionary changes to the economy under a strong plan, adding that modern resources such as artificial intelligence (AI) would be widely used in the economy as well as administratively in the provision of various services to the public.
AI will be used extensively in managing road traffic flow, creating a paperless e-government platform, providing community services and citizenry registration documentation such as ID cards and providing one-stop solutions with the aid of technology to speed up administrative services, the President said.
"Keeping the country abreast with technological advances in e-commerce, automation, blockchain and AI-powered solutions will continue to be a priority throughout the next five years," he said.
The government's aim is to use such technology to "drive productivity and cultivate investment-friendly environments conducive to business growth," the President said.
The use of technology by the government would improve the quality of services, increase public participation and foster a responsible community, he said.
He appealed for the assistance and cooperation of friendly nations such as the UAE for the efforts launched by the government to transform the Maldives.
