Home Ministry has revealed that 111 prostitution establishments are operating as saloons and massage parlors in the Male' region.
At a press briefing on Monday, Home Minister Ali Ihusan said the ministry has noticed prostitution being carried out in the guise of saloons.
The ministry has noticed 111 such establishments and is taking legal action against them, Ihusan told reporters.
He added that foreigners who work as prostitutes arrive in the Maldives on tourist visas and the ministry is working to deport them immediately.
"For the purpose of prostitution, people are brought on tourist visas. This ministry is working to deport such people immediately," he said.
There have been increasing cases of prostitution in saloons and massage parlors involving foreign women recently with several arrests made.
